I think you guys should make a bit of both.
Chainlink’s approach is a bit of a nightmare for engineers, but you should also remember that as a tiny protocol at first, you’re here because of your long term supporters, who provided liquidity and spreaded the word out here.
I agree you need to incentivize newcomers, but as some others said, keeping long term users happy is also worthy.
Why not doing something like 4 snapshot for the past year and a simple average ? Best of both worlds ? And do so at every airdrop so you can keep people in your protocol and not game it, because each new airdrop announcement would imply corresponding snapshots.
Last month Newcomers still have at least 25% of the rewards (that have accrued for 2 whole years!) and historical participants are also happy.
Did add it to the Addendum
I’ve been with stake.link long enough to qualify for both options, however I do feel like because of the way the DAO operates, and with how much I tend to move my stlinkies around and swap them between link / stlink at times because of the convenience of the DAO, option 2 would be more beneficial for myself and others that act in the same manner for certain
I agree with the endstate even as someone who only recently got involved since Jan! Why not snapshot now, reward tenure with a lightweight multiplier (if easy / simple / possible and less stressful over the short period of time we have now), and schedule full time‑weighting / multiplier / whatever solution seems reasonable for the next season or something. That way long‑term supporters feel seen, newcomers have clarity, and the DAO meets Chainlink’s launch window without setting the engineers on fire with insanely short term (and potentially unsafe/risky) expectations?
Totally, agree. Would propose a Time-Weighted Average (TWA) eligibility calculation matching the Rewards Seasons going forward. i.e., if Chainlink announces a new Season 1/3/6 months from now we use TWA eligbility calcuation since the last Season. Will probably put something more formal together today.
Hello everyone, I hope you are well.
I support option 2.
Greetings
I’m in favor of Option 2: Status Quo Stake Snapshot because it ensures fairness and clarity by basing eligibility on a specific, well-communicated point in time. This approach prevents last-minute manipulation or opportunistic staking behavior that could distort true, long-term commitment to the network. By aligning the snapshot with the date of the official Chainlink blog post, it provides transparency and a clear reference for all participants. This method rewards those who were genuinely supporting the protocol at the time of the announcement, rather than those attempting to game the system afterward.
