SLURP-53 | SmartCon 2025 reSDL NFT Reward & Community Growth Initiative

Abstract

This proposal requests a maximum budget of $30,000 USD (denominated in SDL) to fund the issuance of up to 1,000 max-locked (4-year) reSDL NFTs, each valued at ~$30. These NFTs will be distributed as a reward to SmartCon 2025 attendees who engage with stake.link during the event. Participants will complete two simple tasks – following stake.link on X (Twitter) and tweeting, then providing an Ethereum address – via a dedicated landing page linked on our event postcard. This initiative aims to directly onboard high-value Chainlink community members into the stake.link protocol, significantly boost our social media presence, and drive long-term protocol engagement via on-chain marketing.

Problem Statement

Despite stake.link’s position as a premier liquid staking protocol for the Chainlink ecosystem, converting general awareness into active participation, particularly in holding stLINK and staking SDL, remains a key challenge. Current onboarding methods may not fully capture the attention of high-value individuals at critical industry events like SmartCon. A direct, incentive-driven approach is needed to immediately engage this highly targeted audience, establish a strong first touchpoint, and drive them into the stake.link ecosystem as active, vested participants, rather than just passive observers.

Proposed Solution & Deliverables

We propose a targeted reSDL NFT airdrop campaign specifically for SmartCon 2025 attendees. This initiative is designed to leverage our event sponsorship for maximum community growth and DAO decentralization and participation.

Mechanics:

  1. Event Distribution: stake.link will distribute exclusive postcards directly at SmartCon 2025. These postcards will guide attendees to a dedicated landing page.

  2. Engagement Quests: On the landing page, participants will be asked to complete two simple tasks:

    • Follow @stakedotlink on X (Twitter) and tweet a message about stake.link & SmartCon.

    • Provide an Ethereum address they control for NFT delivery.

  3. Reward: Upon successful completion of these tasks, participants will become eligible to claim a free reSDL NFT.

  4. NFT Details: Each reSDL NFT will be max-locked for a 4-year duration, representing $30 USD worth of SDL at the time of minting. This structure is specifically chosen to ensure long-term alignment and encourage active participation in DAO governance and access to boosted rewards, with no selling pressure in the short to medium term.

Deliverables:

  • A dedicated SmartCon landing page for task completion and ETH address submission.

  • The minting and distribution of up to 1,000 4-year max-locked reSDL NFTs from the treasury (the exact number will depend on actual participation, $30K budget could be lower).

  • Comprehensive tracking and reporting of participant engagement and NFT distribution.

Budget Request

Total Maximum Budget: $30,000 USD (denominated in SDL)

This budget represents the maximum potential cost, covering up to 1,000 reSDL NFTs at $30 each. The actual budget utilized will be directly proportional to the number of SmartCon participants who successfully complete the required quests.

Minting Process: reSDL NFTs will be minted from the treasury after SmartCon, reflecting the precise number of eligible participants. This ensures responsible spending and direct alignment of the budget with actual, verified engagement.

Expected Outcomes

This marketing play is expected to yield high returns on investment due to its highly targeted audience.

  • High ROI Marketing: Achieve direct engagement with a highly qualified audience of Chainlink advocates and participants, ensuring a high conversion rate of interested parties into vested community members.

  • Significant Social Growth: Generate an immediate and measurable increase in stake.link’s X (Twitter) followers and robust amplification of our brand messaging through participant-generated tweets.

  • DAO Decentralization & Engagement: Successfully onboard up to 1,000 new, long-term aligned reSDL holders, granting them stLINK & stPOL rewards on a bi-daily matter, potentially boosting DAO participation, increasing distributed voting power, and overall decentralization.

  • Enhanced Brand Authority: Solidify stake.link’s position as a leading, community-focused protocol within the Chainlink ecosystem at its most prestigious event - there is no second best.

I would ask another 1 or 2 questions on the form. I get not wanting to bog down people with questions, but this seems like a great opportunity to get a temp-check on our marketing efforts to our target audience.

Admittedly, I’m not the best at coming up with these questions but something along the lines of:

  1. How did you first hear of SDL? Twitter, This conference, somewhere else (define)
  2. Please check the box of the the L2s and/or DeFi protocols that you interact with at least once per month.

Outside of that, love this idea.

I like the idea and the follow-up suggestion. Free money with engagement and intel.

For the questions you could focus on types of activity: buy+hodl only, LP, lend, stake, degen, trade, perps, etc

Maybe introduce a referral aspect where individuals with referrals get extra. This acts as insurance against spoilage but lowers the overall potential people to hand them out to.

Is 1000 a reasonable number? I don’t know what these events look like.

Sounds like a really good initiative. My only concern would be if the landing page was leaked and people could claim an NFT improperly. Perhaps flyers could have an individual code to ensure this doesn’t happen.

It would also be good to clearly explain what the reSDL NFT provides: prioritised staking access, fees from the protocol, and use in the governance.

This is my main concern personally. There should be some Sybil protection, a one-time claim code for the reSDL NFT could work well. Otherwise, filtering manually through X accounts could become messy and brings low Sybil protection imho. I think the community needs minimal guarantees that the rules can’t be gamed.

Thank you for the feedback guys. As we did for previous on-chain airdrops, we’ll make sure this one isn’t gamed either, whether we implement asks to provide proof of attendance (such as posting a picture from SmartCon about SmartCon/SDL) or by manually reviewing the X accs if needed. We are aware of how many people should arrive/participate and can cross reference that if we see an irregular spike in submissions :+1:t4:
